I've read 44 out of 100. How did you do? Notice that I am not very likely to read every book in a series. I try to read a variety of materials and don't want to spend all my time reading books in a series. The thing that worries me is that I am not even familiar at all with several of the books (series) listed here. I've highlighted these in aqua on the list..
I am not sure how the original list was compiled or who did it. I wouldn't hold this list as the 'gospel truth' as far as it being the definitive top 100 books, but it is certainly representative of what is popular right now in the YA world. I should point out that there are some real heavy hitters in the YA world of authors that are missing from the list: Sharon Draper, Laurie Halse Anderson, Tamora Pierce, Nancy Werlin, Walter Dean Myers are five that come to mind without too much thinking. And some very popular books that aren't noted here, such as: Anna and the French Kiss, If I Stay, and The Sky is Everywhere that are obvious omissions. Proof, in my mind anyway, that this list wasn't scientifically compiled.
Anyway, have fun and let me know how you do.
Thanks Proud Book Nerd for pointing out this list to me.
wow you have read a lot of the books!
ReplyDeleteJust counting the lines (and not the individual books), I've read 12. A few of those I don't think really fall under the YA category though - I know that The Secret Life of Bees, & The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time are shelved in the regular fiction section. Maybe they counted them as YA just because they have young main characters?
ReplyDeleteHow fun though! I love lists like this where I get to compare what I've read and what I haven't :-)
I am quite impressed! There were several on here that I didn't recognize, either. And I would agree, this isn't a definitive list. Probably what an individual named their top 100. Not sure about that, though.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of 19, 20, and 99 (the Tiger ones' are pretty new.) But the rest of your aqua ones, I haven't heard of either. I think there are some great ones on this list --- but some of them I'm kind of "meh" about. Still fun....
ReplyDeleteGood list, but it seems heavy on the sic-fi/fantasy/supernatural
ReplyDeleteI've read about 80 of them. I've heard of all of them and have some on my tbr shelf. Most of these books are series and I wasn't sure to count each individual book or the series itself. I agree with Helen though, there's definitely not enough contemporary, realistic YA on here.
ReplyDeleteWow - you've done quite well with the list.
ReplyDeleteThere was some on the list i'd never heard of too. Don't know what they used to compile it.
The Ghostgirl books are good- I saw them on the shelf at the library and thought they sounded funny but they aren't well known as far as I can tell. Worth a try if you can get hold of them though. :D
Thanks for visiting my blog.
