Sunday Salon, Dec. 12th

Jamie is admiring all our Christmas decorations with lots of "ohs." We purposely put out decorations at his level that we didn't mind if he played with them.

Weather: Windy and rainy. Weather reports for a storm. We got up on Saturday morning and hurriedly made a pot of chili to bubble all day thinking if we lost power we could always use the stove top on our gas range. Bad weather never materialized unless lots of rain is considered a storm. The good thing about this is we have a big pot of chili ready whenever we feel like eating!

Hamilton Christmas-themed Parody: Hamildolph by Eclipse 6. So fun and quite good.

Books:

  • Currently reading:
    • Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout. The sequel to Olive Kitteridge which I read and loved years ago. A book club selection. E-Book. 10%
    • Crying in the H Mart by Michelle Zauner. A memoir by a Korean American who celebrates her relationship with her mother through food. Audio. 14%
  • Finished this week:
    • Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson. Kids burst into flames if provoked. Lillian is tasked with helping them. Odd but strangely poignant. Audio.
    • A Life On Our Planet: A Witness Statement and a Vision For the Future by David Attenborough. Super depressing but necessary for us to hear if we are going to save our planet and ourselves. Audio.

Homemade Cranberry Bliss Bars.
Not as good as those we've had in the past at Starbucks, but we haven't been able to get one there this year, so I made them. The only problem, the recipe called for a tsp of orange flavoring and I think my old bottle was off, making them taste a bit funky. Next time I will make it with orange juice or a teaspoon of grand marnier. In fact, I tossed out the bottle of old orange flavoring so I'll be forced to use something different.

Lighter side:

A real 'groaner.'

This one is hilarious to me because I live with a guy who has to park perfectly!

This one wins for funniest of the week. Ha ha! (Don't miss the plexiglass barrier.)

What? Is this possibly real? If so, it's a clothing maker with a sense of humor.

  1. Those are very clever sayings although that last one made me wince. My Sbux doesn't have any food out now so I'm not sure what they have.

  2. Those washing instructions are the best! I love it when a company has a sense of humor. The nativity scene is also really good. Have a great week.

  3. I just love your photos of Jamie admiring your decorations with his "oh"s! How fun!!

I want to read Olive, Again also - I enjoyed Olive Kitteridge but haven't read any of her other novels! And I just read Crying in H Mart for Nonfiction November - very good.

Love your funnies, as always, especially the nativity scene and the last one (though not really funny of course, but you have to laugh!)

  4. I loved both Olive Kitteridge and Olive, Again. I also read and enjoyed Crying in H Mart this year.

We want children to have opportunities to play with things, don't we? Why have beautiful things if everyone can't really examine them?

Thanks for the humor! I will pass on a couple of these.

  5. For once, someone else is reading the same things that I have read: the Olive books and Crying in H-Mart. I liked them as well as many others. My most recent read is Cloud Cuckoo Land.

  6. They sure don't avoid the plague. Good grief, you'd think wearing a simple mask is like the end of civilization. I enjoyed Nothing to See Here on audio. I'll be curious if you like Olive Again. I ended up liking it but it's a bit dark ... on some of the chapters.

  7. Jamie is a doll.

I love all the memes you shared. Very funny. I got a chuckle out of them.

Today all of California has a mask mandate once again. Day one and already there is non compliance. It's really not that big of a deal.
