The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Find a quote from page 56.
Check out the links for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Participants don't select their favorite, coolest, or most intellectual books, they just use the one they are currently reading. This is the book I'm reading right now---
Book Title: Places No One Knows by Brenna Yovanoff
Book Beginnings:
There is something awful about the sun. It rockets up from the horizon like a hot-air balloon. One minute, you're looking at the shy, glowing sliver of it. The next, it's glaring down at you like the wrath of God.Friday 56:
This is the functional opposite of dreams about delivering speeches to packed auditoriums while naked. It's like my subconscious is underscoring all the way the world consists of tightly knot biomes, and I am on the outside.Comments: I am attempting to read all the YA books published in 2016 that have received three starred reviews or more, currently somewhere around 35 books. Places No One Knows is one of those books. I like the quotes but haven't read enough to know if they are representative of the writing throughout.
Anne
Hi Anne,
ReplyDeleteWow! This sounds quite deep and dark for YA fiction, although I guess I am probably out of touch with just how close the boudaries are between YA and adult fiction these days!
Probably not one I would read personally if I also had access to the premise, although the cover art is really eye-catching and the first lines would definitely have me hooked and reading on, if that was all I had to guide me.
The lines you chose as your 56, weren't really to my liking and I might well have skimmed over them, if I had been reading the book for myself.
Thanks for sharing, I hope that you enjoy the book and have a great weekend :)

I agree with Yvonne - that cover is beautiful. The book sounds great. Thanks for sharing and for visiting me today!
ReplyDeleteSounds really interesting and I love the cover! Hope you like it.

This one sounds tempting...and I love that description of the sun, especially that part of it that is "glaring down...like the wrath of God." That's how the sun feels here, where it's so hot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
Wow! Sounds intriguing. And, love the cover! Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

The quotes are certainly interesting. Enjoy the book! :-)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't tell if this was fiction or....In any case, hope you like it. I read YA occasionally too.

ReplyDeleteMy Friday 56 from Scar Tissue
I really enjoyed this one, my favorite of Brenna Yovanoff's so far. Very ambitious of you to pick up all 2016 releases with three or more stars. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI know. It sounds like a huge chore but I am on the hunt for the best of best YA books for the year for my Mock Printz activity and I am bound and determined this year to read everyone of the possibles before we select our list of books.
DeleteGreat 56. Sounds like a good read.
ReplyDeleteThis does seem like a dark book from the qoutes - the cover is very interesting for it though - and I like the idea of your attempt to read all of the YA 3 star or more books - thanks for visiting my Friday meme earlier
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing this one around the blogosphere quite a bit lately - happy reading!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds interesting! I look forward to your thoughts on the book :)
