The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Find a quote from page 56.
Check out the links for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Participants don't select their favorite, coolest, or most intellectual books, they just use the one they are currently reading. This is the book I'm reading right now---
Title: The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge
Book Beginning:
The boat moved with a nauseous, relentless rhythm, like someone chewing on a rotten tooth.Friday 56:
Natural scientists liked to argue and debate. Back at the rectory Faith had grown used to her father's guests smiling, bantering, and my-dear-fellow-ing over their tea, while racing their rival theories like prize ponies.Comment: This is the only YA book published so far this year to garner a starred review from every publication which has reviewed it, seven at my counting. I am not far enough into the plot to comment on it but I can say I have noticed what a tremendous writer Hardinge is. This book won the 2015 Costa Award in the U.K.
I have needed to read a book by this author. I think I might be able to get this one from Edelweiss or Netgalley, but need to get around to it. I haven't done one of these Friday memes in a while. I need to get back to them. Both of your quotes make me want to read more!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is fun meme and a very friendly community.
DeleteGreat cover and excerpts! I definitely want to know more now. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThat cover is stunning...wow. I've never heard of this author before though, I'll need to look her up
ReplyDeleteHere's mine
I agree. I love the cover.
DeleteI really love the cover. I haven't heard much about this one, but the beginning and the 56 are interesting.
ReplyDeleteI keep trying to figure out how a rotten tooth is nauseating.
DeleteI love this writing. And that cover art is amazing. Must check the book out now.

ReplyDeleteI love this cover and I'm intrigued by the accolades. I'll have to look for this one.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good. I haven't heard of it before. My YA this week is The Haunting of Falcon House by Eugene Yelchin. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI didn't really get much from the snippets, but the cover alone pulled me in. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteMe neither, but I was following the rules. Unfortunately the page 56 doesn't always have a stunning quote.
DeleteI wasn't quite taken with this one, but I do think the writer is really talented. Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping it will pick up. With the end of school at hand I am only reading a few pages a day before I clunk over each night.
DeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteThose opening lines on their own, probably woudn't sway me into reading the book, as, if nothing else, I don't like the water and boat travel.
However, factor in the full synopsis, your second excerpt and that great cover art and I'm hooked!
I'm not sure that I would enjoy everything that Frances has written, but I did check out 'Cuckoo Song', another of her books and that's another definite for me.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend :)
Yvonne
I ended up really liking Cuckoo's Song. It was creepy but not over the top horror.
DeleteThis sounds intriguing. I have to check it out. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds interesting -I think both teasers are good - has a different cover in the US - adding it to my list to check out. Here's my Friday meme
ReplyDeleteBoth interesting snippets. I'd definitely keep going! Hope you're enjoying this read.
ReplyDeleteSounds great!
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this but I know almost nothing about it. The snippets sound good though.
