TTT: My favorite books in a series by numbers

Top Ten Tuesday:
Today's topic is favorite books with numbers in the title. Since we just did that post two years ago (If you want to see that list, here it is: 'TTT: Books with numbers in the title') I decided to tweak the theme and attempt to identify my favorite books in series by number.

Series   / Author                                     Title of book                               Number placement in series

His Mark Materials  / Pullman            The Golden Compass/ The Subtle Knife /          Tie #1-3
                                                             The Amber Spyglass

Dairy Queen / Murdock                       The Off Season                                                   #2

The Lunar Chronicles / Meyer             Cress                                                                    #3

Bill Hodges Trilogy  / King                  Mr. Mercedes                                                      #1

Harry Potter / Rawling                         The Goblet of Fire                                               #4

Abhorsen / Nix                                     Lirael                                                                   #2

The Raven Cycle / Stiefvater             Raven Boys / The Dream Thieves /                     Tie #1-4
Blue Lily, Lily Blue / The Raven King

As a teen librarian I felt an urge to read widely so I rarely would complete series once I got a feel for the story line and the author's writing. Of the many, many series I started it was rare that I would finish them. I did complete all the books in the series listed above, however.

  1. There are some great series here. I haven't read all of them, but the ones I have, I've enjoyed very much.

  3. Wow! I love a good series and you've provided several great ones! How clever of you to list them in this manner! The Knife sounds so intriguing! I love the Chronicles of Narnia so much that I have the hard copy as well as the CD's. Yes, I bought them a while ago. Thank you so much for such a fabulous post!

  8. That's a creative twist on this week's topic! I love some of the same series—Narnia, Harry Potter, and the Lunar Chronicles—although I wouldn't necessarily choose the same books as my top favorites.

Here's my TTT list for this week.

  9. Interesting tweak to this weeks list! I didn't know you were a teen librarian, so fun! I have two teens :) Here's my list if you would like to stop by: https://cindysbookcorner.blogspot.com/2021/09/top-ten-tuesday-numbers-in-title.html

  12. I am *terrible* about finishing a series. I've been making more of an effort over the past year or so to continue them though. I've at least started most of these and I've even finished five of them. Yay for me! Great take on the topic!

  16. This would made an excellent prompt for Top Ten Tuesday.

My answer would almost always be #1 in the series because, in general, I only read book one. I, like you, felt compelled to read as many books as possible for the students in my library, and who had time to read all the books in the series?

  17. I love how you tweaked the prompt this week. My answer would almost always be #1 since I rarely read past the first book in a series. I got in the habit of doing that when I was a school librarian and I felt like I needed to at least sample all the series.
