TTT: Settings I don't ever want to visit thanks to a book
This is a tweak on today's topic, but I've previously created a list of places I'd like to visit due to descriptions in a book. See that list here. So today I am listing the opposite: places I don't want to visit.
Setting: Arrakis
Book: Dune by Frank Herbert
Reason: Dust and giant worms
Setting: Moon Colony #2
Book: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel
Reason: The fake sun isn't working and the colony is forced to live in twilight
Setting: West Texas
Book: Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore
Reason: Inhospitable landscape, dry and dusty
Setting: North Korea
Book: Without Your There Is No Us by Suki Kim
Reason: Complete governmental control over everyone's lives
Setting: The Amazon River
Book: State of Wonder by Ann Patchett
Reason: SNAKES (big ones) and curare-wielding natives
Setting: Small village in Nigeria
Book: The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare
Reason: Women treated like second-rate citizens, not allowed a complete education.
Setting: Aleppo
Book: The Cat Man From Aleppo by Irene Latham
Reason: War and devastation
Setting: Panem
Book: Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
Reason: That the government would think that a game where 19 children die in competition with only one winner is a good idea.
Setting: Kamchatka (Siberia)
Book: Disappearing Earth by Julia Phillips
Reason: the remote setting in Northeastern Russia
