Friday Quotes, May 6th

Book Beginnings on Friday is hosted by Rose City ReaderShare the opening quote from the book.
The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's VoiceFind a quote from page 56.

Check out the links for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Participants don't select their favorite, coolest, or most intellectual books, they just use the one they are currently reading. This is the book I'm reading right now---

Book Title: My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout

Book Beginnings:
There was a time, and it was many years ago now, when I had to stay in a hospital for almost nine weeks.
Friday 56:
But it turned out I wanted something else. I wanted my mother to ask about my life.
Comments:
Lucy Barton was estranged from her mother until she showed up at the hospital as a companion as Lucy mended. I've read very little of this book so far but I do like the author. Her book Olive Kitteridge was amazing.

  1. I hope you enjoy this one. It doesn't sound like something I would normally choose. I'm spotlighting Heart of Brass by Kate Cross from my TBR mountain this week. Happy reading!

    1. It is a book club selection. That is one of the things I enjoy about book club, is reading books which I might otherwise not select.

    1. Olive Kitteridge is a book anomaly...the writing is spectacular but you don't like the main character.

  4. Hmm, I wonder why the two of them were estranged. Sounds like a good pick since Mother's Day approaches. Happy Friday!

  7. It's amazing how sickness tends to bring people closer. Even those who haven't been around. I think they suddenly realize life is short. I'd love for you to visit me... http://tinyurl.com/LisaKsBookReviewsBTH
