The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice.
Check out the links for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Participants don't select their favorite, coolest or most intellectual books, they just use the one they are currently reading.
Book: Landline by Rainbow Rowell
Format: Audiobook
Book Beginning:
Georgie pulled into the driveway swerving to miss a bike. Neal never made Alice put it away. Apparently bikes never got stolen in Nebraska---and people never tried to break in to your house. Neal didn't even lock the front door most nights until after Georgie came home, though she told him that was like putting a sign in the yard that said PLEASE ROB US AT GUNPOINT.Friday 56:
He nodded. 'I thought it was a pen name. Georgie McCool. Sounds like a pen name.'Comments: I read a quick review by a reader of this book who said, "I loved this book! I really loved it so much - the characters were all so real and so likable despite their flaws, and I felt every emotion in the book so fully. It made me laugh, it made me worry..." I concur.
Progress: I'm listening to disc 3 of 7.
I've been dying to read Landline. Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen this book around and been curious about it. Thanks for the endorsement! Both the opening and the 56 excerpt make me want to read it because I like the humor.
ReplyDeleteMy Friday post features THE 13 OF HEARTS.
The beginning made me laugh. I'm definitely the paranoid one in my marriage. The doors are always locked and bolted and I even lock my car in the garage. It drives my husband crazy! The Please Rob Us at Gunpoint sounds like something I would say! I'm dying to read Landline so I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI've actually not read this book yet but I've read so many positive things about it! Do you think experiencing it through an audio book is different than reading it yourself? The beginning is definitely funny although I want to read a little bit more before I decide on having to read it! Thanks for sharing :) Have a great weekend!

Often I like books better if I listened to the audiobook than my friends who read the print version. This particular book does not benefit from the audio version.
DeleteI have a friend who read this and loved it so I'm tempted even though I've seen a lot of disappointed reviews. How do you feel about it?
ReplyDeleteHere's my Friday 56: http://samannelizabeth.wordpress.com/2014/11/14/friday-56-14-nov-2014/
I haven't read any of the reviews you are referring to, but I think I can imagine what they say. I'll without judgment until I finish it.
DeleteI really enjoyed this one! Thanks for sharing and reminding me of how much fun it was. Here's mine: “THE TWILIGHT HOUR”
ReplyDeleteI pick books like that sometimes too. I am rarely disappointed when I do.
ReplyDeleteI love this cover.
ReplyDeleteI have heard different comments about this book. Some folks love it, and some folks said it was bad. I guess we have to make our own opinion, right?
I hope it is enjoyable for you. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't read enough of the book to say like or not like but I think that the audiobook format might not be a good fit for this book.
DeleteI really want to read this book!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I've heard a lot about this. Great pick!
