Day 4 Question:
If you could change one aspect of a favorite book (plot, character, setting, etc.) what would you change and why?

My Answer:
In the book Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly the main character, Andi Alpers, is so angry and upset about events in her life that she acts like an angry brat half the time and whines about things the other half.  I would change Andi's attitude and the way that the adults in her life are all so inept at offering her any kind of help or sympathy. In addition, her overuse of her anti-depressants was very distressing to me.  I couldn't help thinking that she should have ended up in the hospital for an overdose.  I don't think this is a message that teens should  hear---that it OK to take more than the prescribed amounts of drugs. The rest of the book is great, especially the parts related to the French Revolution.

  1. In the book, Deadbeat, I would change the setting where the father is beaten by his sons friends and rewrite it as the son informs his friends that the man they had the encounter with was his dad so they are going to have to forget about the planned revenge.

  2. Good question. I like the way most of my favorite books have turned out with only one exception. I wish the Cullens and Volturi had actually fought in Breaking Dawn. It was a huge let down and anti-climatic to have them just "talk" through their problems, even though that's what you hope for in real life.

  4. I think I would change some of the violence from Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins, book 3 of the Hunger Games Trilogy. I felt it went a little...over the top. But the whole trilogy was just so good!

  5. I would change some of the "blahness" in A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick. The story had so much potential and I felt the author could have gone a little further with it.

  6. The book that I have been the MOST frustrated with recently is Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Katnis, the heroine of the series, is the shell of herself. Her life has been rough, stuff has happened, but the Katnis in books 1&2 is totally different from the defeated Katnis of book 3. Awesome characters died for no apparent reason. The whole book felt very reluctant to commit to anything or anyone. If I could change it, I would have Collins rewrite the whole book, seriously, I hate it that much. I LOVED The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, though.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. I would not make Prim die in 'Mockingjay' by Suzanne Collins. I understand how damaged the characters were, but their 'exile' seemed unfair to me.

  8. I have 2 choices and hope that's okay. 1.) I would change the total structure of "Breaking Dawn" because it doesn't fit with the rest of the story and everything is forced to make Bella have everything. 2.) I would extend the fight scene between Harry and Voldemort in "Deathly Hallows". What happens to Harry at the end is a total cop-out and shouldn't have happened.

  9. I just finished Fragile by Lisa Unger and was frustrated that so many of the characters had similar names or started with the same letters. With so many characters, having them start with different letters helps me keep track. (Maggie Monroe/Melody Murray, Charlene/Charlie/Chuck, Abigail/Angie, Tommy/Travis...and more.)

  10. Man, your questions are great! I recently read DUFF by Kody Kepling and would change the rushed "all fixed and back to perfect" ending. Not regarding the romance, but regarding her father's issues and the relationship between Bianca (heroine) and her mother.

  11. Wow these are really good questions! Lets see, FORBIDDEN by Tabitha Suzuma. I don't want to say what the ending was because I don't want to ruin the book, but all I CAN say is that the ending wasn't a Happily Ever After... :( I cried so much with this one and it took me a few weeks to pick up another book because it was still embedded in my head.

  12. I agree with the people talking about Breaking Dawn and Mockingjay...another cop-out was the entire lame epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She left me wanting to know so much more, Did Harry become an Auror? How soon did he and Ginny get married? Are Ron and Harry neighbors? Who takes care of Teddy Lupin? Did they ever recover the Black's house? Basically, I want a book 8!

  13. I would have one of my favorite characters survive George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones (I won't say who). When I reread the book part of me even foolishly hoped it would turn out differently!

  14. I love the book Forgotten by Cat Patrick and I love the main character but for some reason I dislike her name London, I don't know why it just didn't seem fitting for the character to me.
