Friday!

First Line Friday:  How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you would like, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be at A Few More Pages every Friday.
Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher

"I'm not sure what I loved most about being on the track team. Maybe it was the crippling shin splints. Or constantly feeling like I'd just smoked three packs of cigarettes. Maybe it was the empty stands at every meet, or the way the results get buried in the local sports section."

I can really appreciate how lop-sided so many school sports are in terms of attention and support.I'm not very far into the book but I can tell that most of the action has nothing to do with actual track...maybe more about running away or toward.

Follow Friday....a neat way to "meet" new book-blogging friends.  Share the love.  Take a look around.  If you like what you see, please follow, and I'll do likewise.  Will I make it to 200 +  this week?

This week's featured Blog is The Cait File.  Congratulations, Cait!

Question:  What is on my playlist right now?
For some bizarre reason I have been enjoying all the old rock-n-roll I didn't listen to when I was in college.  Current favorite:
Don't Look Back by Boston (notice the irony?)

"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author?"

I have been known to get excited about the new publication by my favorite authors but, on the other hand, I can read a fabulous book and then completely ignore other things written by that author.  Guess I'm flaky!

  1. Oh high school sports! I remember the shin splints when I played basketball. And the empty stands for the JV girls team.

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!

  3. I usually check out books from the same author, it stands to reason if I like one book than I would like others.

  9. I'm the same way with authors. I look up other books they've written, but I don't always read them. Case in point, I love Shiver and Linger by Maggie Stiefvater, but I still haven't read Ballad or Lament. I may, I may not. It just depends if I ever get to it.

  10. Well, there are so many good books and good authors in the world, it's often hard to do more than make a note of who I've loved; but in theory, yes, absolutely, I look for more by an author I've appreciated. In practice, I look for more of an author I've REALLY appreciated.

Love the opening, was intrigued enough to go look for more info on this title - and WHOA that is some heavy subject matter! Good for him for tackling it; hope it's well done. I see this one headed for the banned books list of course...

I thought maybe it was going to resemble Pretty Good for a Girl by Leslie Heywood, which I really recommend. It's about girls' athletics, and the myriad risks involved in being a young female athlete. I was very impressed.

  12. hopping through and I have to tell you that I love your answer! I'm not sure there really is a simple answer to do you go get more books - it depends on your mood I suppose!

  13. Hopping through. I'm kind of like you - I love reading multiple books by an author but oftentimes I'll also pass them by.
