Snapshot Saturday...Dec.13

On September 1st we bought a new car. We decided to embark on a project to finally reclaim the third bay in our garage for parking a car instead of storage of junk.

Step one was to buy shelving to move items off the floor. Some items (like the lawn mower) wouldn't fit so we decided that a garden shed was in order.

Step two: a concrete pad for the a shed. Poured between rain storms in early November.
Step three: build a shed for garden tools and other items stored in garage. Finished yesterday, Dec. 12th.
Step four: move items into shed; park car in garage; First time in 18 years we truly have a three-car garage
This has been what we call a Moose-a-muffin project, so named by the children's book, If You Give a Moose a Muffin. The story is how if you do one thing it leads to another and another thing. When we bought the new car (middle bay of the garage) we started a chain reaction that involved lots of work but we finally have come to the end of a lot of projects. What we think is funny is how long it took us to finally make these improvements to our house. We've been talking about them for eighteen years.

Snapshot Saturday is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads.

  1. Amazing events, and I know what you mean about how one thing leads to others, until you are several steps away from where you began. Your journey reminds me of those design shows, where someone comes in to organize your garage, and it ends up in some fabulous place.

Congrats! And thanks for sharing. Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST

  2. Well done for finally getting there!
We had a similar chain-reaction when we had our enclosed top verandah restored to its original open verandah status. It involved two bedroom shuffles, an office make-over & a major declutter (all that stuffed stored on the old verandah had to go somewhere!!)
    It's a good feeling when it's done though :-)

  3. Yay for 18 year old plans finally coming to life. What that's old saying "good things come to those who wait". It feels good to be organised doesn't it?

    1. We made improvements on our last house right before we moved. We vowed we wouldn't do the same thing again. Now, eighteen years later, we tell ourselves we will have to stay in the current house for at least a few more years to enjoy our hard work and the updates.

  4. Great job! I like the new little shed that you had installed. I don't think I have ever seen a 3 car garage.

    Happy Holidays!

    1. Most of the houses in my area have three-car garages. We seem to drive everywhere so most families have three or more cars. However, very few of our neighbors actually park their cars in their garages because they are so full of junk! We are quite proud of ourselves for getting things organized enough to squeeze all three cars in the garage.
