WWW...Stuck in Slow Books

Should Be Reading

What I’m reading now:

Old Filth by Jane Gardam ---I have been reading this book for one and a half months.  I like the story fine. I like the writing style.  I have no idea why it feels like drudgery to read it.  But I am within 40 pages of the end and I WILL FINISH IT TODAY.

What I’m listening to now on audiobooks:

The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood---a dystopian novel in a very Atwood-ish style, which means that it is a rather joyless story with brilliant writing.  I’d probably do better reading this book than listening to it since I've been listening to it for a week and I'm not even half way done.

What I recently finished reading:

They Called Themselves the KKK by Susan Campbell Bartoletti---very factual, interesting, and disturbing book about the genesis and evolution of the Ku Klux Klan. It is immaculately researched and has lots of illustrations and photos.

What I will be Reading Next:

The Man in the Wooden Hat by Jane Gardam---the companion book to Old Filth.  This is this month’s book club selection so I definitely need to finish it by next Wednesday.  Best get right on it.

What I Wish I Had Time to Read:

Monster of Men by Patrick Ness---It is sitting right here, right next to me, calling out to me.  I am anxious to dive in to this book, the third book in the Chaos Walking Trilogy.

What are you reading right now?  What have you recently completed?  Wish you had time to read?

  1. I hate it when a book that seems to be okay in every way somehow manages to take forever to read. That's kind of like a day a work that is full and busy and ought to go fast and yet drags on forever...(had one of those today).

  3. YES! MONSTERS OF MEN! I'm in the middle of it right now and I have been telling everyone (who has a clue what I'm talking about) that this is the best book of the trilogy!

  4. That's interesting about Old Filth. I would think with so many positives about the book that you would be breezing through it! Funny how that happens...

I have The Handmaid's Tale but haven't read it or any other Atwood before. Am looking forward to reading her dystopian fiction.

  5. I'm in a Michael Connelly book like that right now. I dashed through Old Filth; I must have been in the mood for that kind of story--not much action, just good writing and interesting characters.

  6. I've had a few books that way myself this year, in every way it seems like it should be something you'd love and should race through, and you just find yourself not able to care, or just not able to push through! Hopefully things will speed up for ya, maybe getting one finished will give you a boost!

My WWW is here if you'd like to stop by!

  7. You visited my blog and asked what I thought of Twenty Boy Summer. I finished it, and I think it's appropriate for high school. My entire review is posted at:
