Top Ten Tuesday:
Thanksgiving Dinner is Part of the Plot of the Book
I'm straining my brain here. Not sure I can think of ten books, but I'm hope you can help me out.
1. The Thanksgiving Visitor by Truman Capote. This is a short story based on the author's life. This is the only story I think I've ever read about the holiday specifically and the first one I thought of for this list.
2. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Melinda and her parents have a disastrous Thanksgiving meal attempt. Her father buries the bones of the not cooked correctly turkey and Melinda digs them up and makes them into an art project.
3. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Charlie realizes that his family loves each other but they don't like each other at their Thanksgiving gathering.
4. The Martian by Andy Weir. Mark Watney is stranded on Mars and thinks about his family on Earth on Thanksgiving.
5. The East of Eden by John Steinbeck. Cal give his father a gift a Thanksgiving and the gift is not accepted well.
6. An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. A marriage in tatters, an uncomfortable Thanksgiving spent reevaluating the union.
7. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Cath spends her Thanksgiving vacation sad because her sister is being so distant.
8. Looking for Alaska by John Green. Miles and his friends at boarding school spend Thanksgiving together rather than go home for the holiday.
9. Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reed. I kinda hated this book so it is funny I'm mentioning it on my list this week. Emira, the Nanny, is invited to come to Thanksgiving dinner with Alix, her employer, and her family. Emira brings her boyfriend who (unknowingly) used to date Alix. What a complete, absolute debacle.
10. The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler. Macon Leary's wife has left him lonely and bereft. Then he meets a dog-walker who adds some sunshine to his life. There is a slow-roast turkey for Thanksgiving too!
