Celebrate this week, October 10th

Today I celebrate Fall colors and weather. It is warm and windy here today (balmy), we know that means a weather front is moving in and with it the likelihood of rain. We ran out to rake leaves that have dumped since the yard guys were here on Thursday. Some of the leaves were needed for the compost pile, the rest will go to the county composting station.

Yesterday we awoke to this sunrise over Mt. Rainier. The morning skies can be spectacular this time of year, as you see.

Celebrate this week---September 26

Today I celebrate weekends.

You know how you can tell the difference between young and old teachers? Old teachers are tired on Friday. Young teachers are tired on Mondays!

I am old.

By Friday I was so tired I just about fell on the couch when I got home and fell asleep for two hours. When my family got home I refused to wake up! When they finally started making moaning noises because they were so hungry I decided to finally get up.  Pathetic!

So today I celebrate weekends and...

• a chance to sleep in
• a hot breakfast
• football games
• time to read for extended periods of time
• the energy to bake a birthday cake from scratch
• making plans to go to the state fair on its last day
• worship and fellowship opportunities
• visiting with family and friends

Celebrate---September 12

School started this week. As a high school librarian in a school that launched an iPad roll-out, I had my hands full of getting textbooks and technology into students' and teachers' hands. It was an exhausting week. As Friday drew to a close I expected to go home, have a glass of wine, and have a relaxing evening with my family. That is not what happened. I got home to find the dog shivering in the corner of the room unable to use her back legs at all. She used her front legs to try to move and just scooted herself into the corner and couldn't get out. Poor thing. She is too heavy for me to carry so I had to drag her on a rug to get her outside to relieve her bladder. But she couldn't even stand to do that. I called our veterinarian and was referred to an emergency clinic that has a veterinarian neurologist on staff. I didn't even know such a specialty existed. We had to leave Muffy at the animal hospital over night. Poor Muffy. She will have an MRI today and possible surgery, depending on what they find.

Today I celebrate our family dog, our friend, a clown. Anyone who loves a dog knows how special our pets are to us.

Mom is telling us a story of growing up in the part of the country. Lovely setting.

Today I celebrate family. Two weeks ago we had a family reunion and gathered in Central Oregon. My dad is 87 and his health is failing; my parents celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary; all my siblings and most of my children and nieces/nephews were able to be with us for a few days. Every day and every event with Dad is a day to celebrate.

Celebrate this week: August 8th

This week I am celebrating art museums, especially the Tacoma Art Museum (TAM).

My daughter and I are attempting to cram in as much summer as we can before she starts to work on a new job this coming Monday. On Thursday we did a very un-summerish thing we visited TAM especially to view the Roger Shimomura: An American Knock-off exhibition. Shimomura is a Japanese-American artist whose lively pop art packs a punch at racism, stereotypes, and cultural identity. We both were blown away by the savvy way he was able to communicate his message.  I have contacted all the history teachers at my school urging them to see the exhibition before it leaves in September.  (If you live in the Puget Sound region, you should go see it!)

Celebrate This Week: August 1st

Carly and Rita goofing around and celebrating sisterhood years ago. It is time to celebrate again.

This week I am celebrating the accomplishments of my daughters, Rita and Carly.

Rita obtained a Master's Degree in Education in June and secured a new teaching position as a middle grades math teacher 3 minutes from her home. For the past several years she has had to commute over 45 minutes to get to work. Yay for Rita!

Carly will be starting work as a receptionist at the hospital next week. This is not her dream job but a transition job, hoping to gain experience that will enhance her chances of getting into graduate school. Since April she has probably applied to over 100 jobs, an arduous task. Yay for Carly.
