Friday Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop

Question of the Day:
"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

I am always very conflicted about posting a negative review.  In fact, I have basically decided that I will follow the Mrs. Thumper rule:  "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."  So even if I don't like a book much I try to find and mention some positive aspect of that book.  An example of that is my review of Evermore by Alyson Noel.  I didn't care for the book, but my students like it.  That is the aspect I will focus on.

  1. I agree with trying to find a positive aspect of a book, even if I didn't care for the book much. Focusing on the fact that your students enjoyed it is a good idea. :)

    Happy Hopping!

  2. Good for you for focusing on the positive. I didn't care for EVERMORE either, even though I know lots of people love the series. Oh well, there are plenty of other books in the library ...

Glad to have found you via the Hop!

  3. That is a good way to do it. Sometimes, it's hard to find something positive to focus on, though. I had a hard with that when I reviewed The Devil Wears Prada.

  4. Writing negative reviews can be hard, but sometimes I find they are the most helpful for me. Like when I'm browsing on goodreads, sometimes I'll check out the negative reviews to see what people don't like about a book. It helps me be a little more selective about what I read, since there are so many books out there.

  5. I've heard a lot of the same sentiment from other readers about disliking Ever, however, a lot of them still enjoyed the series. I'm still unsure whether I'll read it, but am not anxious to do so anytime soon!

  7. I did not care for the Davinci Code. In fact, I can't read Dan Brown; he's not a very good writer.

  8. Mrs. Thumper? I always thought that was my mother's rule. I don't write negative reviews either, although I point out things I didn't love in books that I liked.
